Kolobags loves Re-bagz so much that we wanted to share with you the background behind this inspirational company. Located in the sunny city of angels (LA), Rebagz creator, Marty Steves-Heebner has tapped into an enlightening revelation. With wild ideas like a juice box change purse, we needed to get down to business with the creator…
Did you know that all of the Rebagz products are distinctly colorful and environmentally friendly because they are created from products like recycled rice sacks? Marty thrives on the principal that Rebagz as a company is good for the earth as well as the people that live in it. The Re-bagz team is proud and honored to be granted Green America’s Seal of Approval because all of their accessories are produced under fair labor conditions.
With choices like the small talk clutch and the bubbly messenger bag, we needed to know what Marty feels is a must have purchase for spring? “Rebagz cinchy tote,” she said without thinking. Now, we obviously had to get our hands on one as soon as possible. Marty said, “It balloons out to hold everything (from magazines to make up) and it is great for travel because it compresses.” Wow! We wish we had this on our last vacation.
Now that it is considered “chic” to be eco-friendly and “going green” is the new black, we asked Marty what we can expect from Rebagz this fall 2011. Marty exceeded our expectations. Sticking with what they do best and remaining socially conscious, Re-bagz is beginning to look at ways to look at recycled and remnant leather, which they are calling “ecouture” (ie. eco-friendly + couture).
With a thriving and successful company since 2007, Marty must being doing something right! We asked her if she could give me any advice, in life and or business, “Being gently persistent….If you don’t love it, your customers won’t either.” Marty stays true to her roots and whole heartily stands behind her accessories. “If I don’t love it, then I don’t produce it. I only produce what I love and believe in.” And, when it comes to work she said, “Happy people, make happy bags!” We love that philosophy. This way of thinking can be applied to almost all aspects of life.
It is truly amazing that a history major from Cornell University has begun to leave a huge imprint on the fashion community and environment. With their “gentle and persistent” nature, this is just the beginning for Rebagz.
